After a few days off in the early stages of the season, the Detroit Red Wings are back in action on Friday, paying a visit to an old rival as they get set to take on the Chicago Blackhawks.

Though it seems like forever ago, the Red Wings suffered their first hiccup of the new season this past Monday, when they had a late rally that was all for naught against the Los Angeles Kings.
A last-minute goal from Oskar Sundqvist helped send the game to overtime, but Philip Danault’s second goal of the night helped give L.A. the extra point. Still, there are plenty of things to be positive about for Detroit in albeit just three games thus far.
The offense has been timely, David Perron has been fitting well, and everyone cannot get enough of the line color commentator Mickey Redmond dubbed the “Treesome” of rookie Elmer Soderblom, Michael Rasmussen and Sundqvist.
The Red Wings have been playing with a rejuvenated spirit in the early going, and look to continue that trend heading toward November.
Like Detroit, the Blackhawks are coming in fresh as a daisy after returning home from an early season trip out west. It was not all bad for Chicago, a team coming into the season with little to no expectations.
Despite losing to the Colorado Avalanche opening night, the Hawks battled to a 1-0 loss with the Vegas Golden Knights, before scratching their way into the win column last Saturday against the San Jose Sharks.
They have their mainstays in Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, but also have some veteran talent they brought in during the offseason, lie former Red Wings Andreas Athanasiou and Petr Mrazek.
The teams split the regular season series in 2021-22, with the away team winning each of the two meetings.
