The hoopla surrounding the Notre Dame football program has largely quieted down after a tough start to the season. The Fighting Irish lost to Ohio State in the opener but that game is looking more and more excusable as the Buckeyes are just in another class against the entire college landscape. It looked bleak though when Notre Dame was 0-2 after losing to Marshall under first-year head coach Marcus Freeman. Moving on from head coach Brian Kelly was proving more difficult than originally anticipated for Notre Dame. But the Fighting Irish have fought back in a big way winning three in a row and looking for their fourth tonight at home against their big rival Stanford.

Notre Dame beat No. 16 BYU 28-20 last week in their biggest game of the season. At one point the Irish were up 25-6 so they will have to close out this game a little better tonight but they should still be considerably favored against Stanford today.

That is because the Cardinal have lost four games in a row. To be fair to Stanford, three of those were against ranked conference opponents and they lost to Oregon State by one point last week. The disappointing thing for Stanford in that one is that it was up 24-10 heading into the fourth quarter. Both teams will have room to improve closing out games heading into this primetime matchup.
