In what may be the game of the week in college football, No. 1 Alabama heads to Austin to take on Texas.

All eyes will be on Austin on Saturday when top-ranked Alabama (1-0) heads into Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium to take on Texas (1-0). This matchup features Alabama head coach Nick Saban taking on a recent former assistant in Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian. Sarkisian was an analyst and at one point an interim offensive coordinator at Alabama in 2016 before taking the offensive coordinator job with the Atlanta Falcons. After that, he returned to Alabama where he was the offensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020. When he left for Texas after the Tide’s championship 2020 season, he took a number of Alabama staffers with him to Austin.

In addition to the coaching matchup, this game is loaded with star power. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and among those projected to be the top pick in next year’s NFL Draft. In Alabama’s season-opening 55-0 shutout win over Utah State last week, Young threw for 195 yards and five touchdowns while running for another 100 yards and an additional score.

Texas’ offense is led by freshman sensation quarterback Quinn Ewers. His top target is sophomore Xavier Worthy, who was one of the best freshmen in the country last year. At running back, the Longhorns feature potential first-round pick Bijan Robinson.
