Tampa Bay Rays vs. Detroit Tigers

On Sunday afternoon in Detroit, the final game of the four-game weekend series between the Detroit Tigers and the Tampa Bay Rays will commence.

The Tigers have a chance to earn a series split after a dominating display in the third game of the series on Saturday. After Tampa struck first in the second inning, Detroit came back with a couple of runs in the fifth inning to take the lead, before putting a five-spot in the seventh. Jonathan Schoop’s two-run home run the following inning capped a great afternoon for the Tigers, where they snapped a three-game losing streak with a 9-1 win.

Harold Castro had a great game at the plate, going 3-4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Willi Castro and Jeimer Candelario each had two hits and two runs in the win as well. Garrett Hill grabbed the second win of his major league career, allowing just one run in 5.2 innings, striking out six batters in the process.

Tampa’s lone run came from Yu Chang’s second home run of the season. Chang also ended up pitching the ninth inning in the rather lopsided contest.

The loss for the Rays pushed them back down to the third Wild Card spot in the American League, as the Seattle Mariners are back up a half-game heading into Sunday. With the Kansas City Royals also winning, the Tigers stay at the bottom of the AL Central, a half-game back of KC.
