Kings Announce Opening Night Roster

Kings opening-night roster includes 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders

The LA Kings announced today its 23-player roster for opening night, which features 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.

As part of today’s roster moves, the Kings loaned Rasmus Kupari (F) and Andre Lee (F) to the Ontario Reign (AHL) while Jacob Moverare (D) and Pheonix Copley (G) cleared waivers this morning and were reassigned to Ontario.

In addition, defenseman Brandt Clarke has changed his number from 54 to 92.

Roster Highlights:
•   Forward Anze Kopitar will serve as captain for the seventh season. He has led the Kings in points 14 of the last 15 seasons. The 2022-23 season will also be his 17th season, tying him with Dave Taylor for second-most in Kings history
•   Goaltender Jonathan Quick enters the 2022-23 NHL season with 712 games played, which ranks second amongst all active goaltenders and is the most by any active goaltender under a single NHL franchise.
•   Defenseman Alexander Edler is just 34 games from 1,000
•   For the first time since 2008-09, the Kings Opening Night roster features two players – Kevin Fiala (33 with Minnesota), Adrian Kempe (35) – who scored 30 or more NHL goals the season prior.
•   The Kings Opening Night roster features eight first-round NHL Draft selections: Quinton Byfield (2nd, 2020), Brandt Clarke (8th, 2021), Phillip Danault (26th, 2011 (CHI)), Drew Doughty (2nd, 2008), Adrian Kempe (29th, 2014), Anze Kopitar (11th, 2005), Kevin Fiala (11th, 2014 (NSH)) and Gabriel Vilardi (11th, 2017)
•   Of the 23 players on the Kings Opening Night roster, 18 were drafted, signed or acquired since 2017

The Kings open the season Tuesday at home against the Vegas Golden Knights at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and the LA Kings Audio Network on iHeartRadio. Fans who are attending the game are encouraged to be in their seats early.
