What to know about the New Orleans Saints

2020 NFL Week 2 New Orleans Saints vs. Las Vegas Raiders betting odds for New Orleans: -5.5

The New Orleans Saints spoiled the debut of Tom Brady as a Buccaneer after beating Tampa Bay in Week 1, 33-24.

40-year-old Drew Brees outdueled his fellow veteran QB rival, but finished with an efficient yet less-than explosive night with just 160 passing yards and two touchdowns with just one sack and not a single turnover. Instead, Alvin Kamara was also held in check on the ground, rushing for just 16 yards on 12 carries and one TD while catching five passes for 51 yards and another score.

The Saints won Week 1 thanks largely to a great defensive effort, as they forced three Tampa Bay turnovers, including two picks off Brady. This unit will need to put on another good showing on the road against a Raiders squad that racked up 34 points in Week 1, especially with the unfortunate news that star wideout Michael Thomas will be sidelined indefinitely due to high ankle sprain.

What to know about the Las Vegas Raiders

2020 NFL week 2 New Orleans Saints vs. Las Vegas Raiders betting odds for Las Vegas: +5.5

Even though the Las Vegas Raiders opened their season on the road, they still got their new campaign off to a strong start with a huge 34-30 win over the Carolina Panthers.

The duo of quarterback Derek Carr and Josh Jacobs worked harmoniously this past Sunday, with long-time quarterback Carr going 22-of-30 for 239 passing yards and a score, and with sophomore stud back Jacobs finishing with 93 rushing yards and three TDs on 25 carries.

On the other hand, the Raiders defense was basically bailed out by the offense, as Carolina actually outgained them in total yards that game, 388-372. Vegas also failed to create a single takeaway, nor did the D manage to sack Carolina’s Teddy Bridgewater once. That isn’t a good look against a New Orleans offense that’s still clicking, but will be without the services of their top receiver as mentioned earlier.

New Orleans Saints vs. Las Vegas Raiders betting trends

  • New Orleans went 7-1 on the road last season (SU/ATS). The team dropped its first road game against the Rams before reeling off seven-straight victories with no less than a six-point lead in each of those wins.
  • Las Vegas finished the 2019 season with a 5-3 record at home (4-4 ATS). Granted; the team’s old home turf was in Oakland, not Paradise just yet. The over/under was also split down the middle in these eight home games.

What’s your New Orleans Saints vs. Las Vegas Raiders Week 2 prediction?

It’s justified that the Saints are the road favorites in this Week 2 MNF clash. However, with Thomas sidelined for this game and the foreseeable future, perhaps the door is wide open for the Raiders to pull off a morale-boosting maiden home victory if their own brand of offense is enough to outgun New Orleans’ depleted arsenal.
