Sunday’s Houston Texans vs. Miami Dolphins game features two very bad football teams who have lost a combined 14 consecutive games. Both of these teams won their 2021 season opener, but neither has won since. Let’s take a look at the current NFL odds, the TV channel, how to live stream this Week 9 matchup, and a Texans vs. Dolphins prediction.

Both of these teams may just be 1-win teams entering November, but the Texans have actually performed well against the spread. They have covered in four of eight games in 2021 and are 4-1 against the spread in their last five meetings vs. Miami. The Dolphins, on the other hand, are just 2-5-1 against the spread and have not covered the number since their Week 3 overtime loss in Las Vegas.

The game total is one of the lowest on Sunday’s board, and rightfully so. These are two of the NFL’s worst offenses. The Dolphins are 28th in points per game (17.2) while the Texans are dead last (14.9). That said, the over has cashed in four of Houston’s eight games as well as four of Miami’s eight games.

Texans vs. Dolphins prediction

These two teams limp into this Week 9 game as two of the three worst teams in the NFL. In a perfect world, the loser of this game would be relegated to a lower professional football league. But alas, no matter how this game plays out, both teams will return to play out their remaining eight games.

Neither team’s players are playing for anything more than pride and their own jobs. In Miami, they are probably also playing for the jobs of their head coach and general manager. Many people are pointing fingers at Brian Flores in Miami. But it’s been general manager Chris Grier who has squandered away the treasure trove of draft picks and cap room that the Dolphins compiled in 2019 and 2020.

The Dolphins are in Year 2 following their 2019 teardown and might actually be a worse team in 2021 than they were in 2019. Their offense ranks in the bottom five in points per game, yards per game, and yards per play. Likewise, their defense ranks in the bottom five in both points and yards per game allowed, and they are seventh-worst in yards per play allowed.

However, the Texans have actually been worse. Of course, the difference is that nobody expected Houston to be a good team in 2021, while the Dolphins had playoff expectations. But by most metrics, the Texans are the worst team in football — including in point differential, where they rank last with an average differential of -15.2 points per game.

Texans’ offense amongst worst in the NFL

Just how bad has Houston’s offense been? The team enters Week 9 without a single player on the roster having gained more than 108 rushing yards in 2021. Of course, that is misleading, as they did trade their leading rusher, Mark Ingram, last week. He had gained a whopping 294 yards rushing before being dealt back to New Orleans.

In fact, wide receiver Brandin Cooks is the only player currently on Houston’s roster who has gained more than 270 yards from scrimmage. Again, I remind you that it’s Week 9 of the NFL season.

All of this is my nice way of saying “good luck” to those of you who will voluntarily be watching this football game on Sunday.
