Commanders vs. Cowboys: Game time, TV schedule, streaming and more
The Commanders visit the Cowboys for their second division game of the year. How to watch Cowboys vs. Commanders football game
The Washington Commanders opened as 3 point road underdogs against the Dallas Cowboys, and have held pretty steadily there throughout the week. The public is actually backing Washington to cover the spread this week, but they need to do more than cover, they need a win. Falling to 1-2 isn’t a death sentence in the NFL, but it puts you on life support, especially after losing two in a row and falling to the basement of the division.
Washington could be the last team to play backup QB Cooper Rush before Dax Prescott returns to the field following thumb surgery. They will have to take advantage of this and leave Texas with a win or their odds of even making the playoffs plummet.
The Dallas Cowboys are 9-3 against the Washington Commanders since September of 2016, and they’ll have a chance to extend that success Sunday. Dallas and Washington will face off in an NFC East battle at 1 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys won both of their matches against the Commanders last season (27-20 and 56-14) and are aiming for the same result this time around.
Dallas was able to grind out a solid win over the New York Giants last Monday, winning 23-16. No one had a standout game offensively for Dallas, but they got scores from WR CeeDee Lamb and RB Ezekiel Elliott. QB Cooper Rush ended up with a passer rating of 136.60.
Special teams collected 11 points for Dallas. K Brett Maher delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
Meanwhile, the Commanders lost to the Philadelphia Eagles at home by a decisive 24-8 margin. Washington was down 24 to nothing at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. One thing holding Washington back was the mediocre play of QB Carson Wentz, who did not have his best game: besides failing to produce a single touchdown, he fumbled the ball once with only 4.91 yards per passing attempt.
This next contest is expected to be close, with Dallas going off at just a 3-point favorite. They might be worth taking a chance on against the spread as they are currently on a two-game streak of ATS wins.
The Cowboys’ victory brought them up to 2-1 while Washington’s loss pulled them down to a reciprocal 1-2. A couple defensive stats to keep an eye on: Dallas enters the matchup with only three touchdowns allowed, which is the best in the league. Less enviably, the Commanders are third worst in the NFL in passing touchdowns allowed, with eight on the season. So the cards are definitely stacked against Washington.
