What to Know
The Massachusetts Minutemen need to shore up a defense that is allowing 46.25 points per matchup before their contest next Saturday. They will square off against the Rhode Island Rams at 3:30 p.m. ET at Warren P. McGuirk Alumni Stadium. Both of these teams will be looking for a pick-me-up after considerable defeats in their previous games.
The day started off rough for UMass on Saturday, and it ended that way, too. They were dealt a punishing 62-17 defeat at the hands of the Liberty Flames. The Minutemen were in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 41-3. QB Brady Olson had a memorable game, but not in the way you want to be remembered: despite one touchdown, he threw one interception and fumbled the ball once with a passing completion percentage of only 36%.
Meanwhile, Rhode Island entered their game against the Maine Black Bears on Saturday without any home losses — but there’s a first time for everything. Rhode Island suffered a grim 45-24 defeat to Maine. It was supposed to be a close matchup, and Rhode Island was supposed to come out on top, but neither of those things ended up happening.
With the two teams each stumbling in off of a loss, both will be hungry for the victory. Check back to see which squad is able to work their way into the win column.
This is the first time these teams have played each other within the last six years.
