Louisville vs Syracuse Orange

The Syracuse Orange watched the action from their couches last weekend, but are set to take to the field. ‘Cuse and the Louisville Cardinals will face off in an ACC battle at noon ET Saturday at Cardinal Stadium. The Orange will be strutting in after a win while U of L will be stumbling in from a defeat.

While not quite a landslide, the contest between ‘Cuse and the Boston College Eagles two weeks ago was still a pretty decisive one as ‘Cuse wrapped it up with a 21-6 victory at home. ‘Cuse’s RB Sean Tucker was on fire, rushing for one TD and 207 yards on 26 carries. That touchdown — a 51-yard rush in the third quarter — was one of the highlights of the matchup.

‘Cuse’s defense was a presence as well, as it got past BC’s offensive line to sack the quarterback five times for a total loss of 34 yards. Leading the way was DL Kingsley Jonathan and his three sacks. Jonathan now has 4.5 sacks through nine games.

Meanwhile, it was all tied up 17-17 at halftime, but U of L was not quite the Clemson Tigers’ equal in the second half when they met last week. U of L was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap as they fell 30-24 to Clemson. Louisville’s loss came about despite a quality game from QB Malik Cunningham, who accumulated 174 passing yards in addition to rushing for two TDs and 134 yards. One of the most memorable plays of the game was Cunningham’s 51-yard touchdown rush in the third quarter.

The Orange are expected to lose this next one by 3.5. Bettors make note: they are flawless against the spread this season.

‘Cuse’s victory brought them up to 5-4 while U of L’s defeat pulled them down to a reciprocal 4-5. Two numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: ‘Cuse is stumbling into the game with the 192nd fewest passing yards per game in the nation, having accrued only 167.4 on average. The Cardinals have experienced some struggles of their own as they are 203rd worst in the nation in passing yards allowed per game, with 275 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
