The Hurricanes took down a ranked ACC opponent last weekend. Can they do it again this Saturday?
Miami (3-4 overall, 1-2 in the ACC) is looking to ride the momentum they gained after a 31-30 upset win over then-No. 18 NC State last Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. But they’ll be tested immediately by Pitt (6-1, 3-0), a team who has yet to lose a conference game and most recently beat Clemson by a score of 27-17.
The ‘Canes have already received devastating injury news this week. On Monday, it was announced that junior safety Bubba Bolden, the team’s leading tackler, needs shoulder surgery and would be out for the season. True freshman Kam Kichens, who made the tackle that prevented the Wolfpack from getting a first down late in last Saturday’s game and helped secure Miami’s win, will start in Bolden’s place.
Kichens and James Williams, the Hurricanes other starting safety and another true freshman, will have to limit big plays from Panthers quarterback Kenny Pickett. Pickett, who is second in the ACC in passing yards and ninth in the country overall, threw for 302 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win over Clemson.
Miami leads the all-time series with a record of 28-11-2. The Hurricanes won last year’s meeting in Miami Gardens by a score of 31-19.
