What to Know

The Georgia Southern Eagles and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are even-steven against one another since December of 2017 (2-2), but not for long. Georgia Southern and the Chanticleers will face off in a Sun Belt battle at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. These two teams might be coming in a bit winded after having run the length of the field multiple times in their most recent games.

The Eagles came up short against the Georgia State Panthers last week, falling 21-14. Georgia Southern’s defeat came about despite a quality game from RB Logan Wright, who rushed for one TD and 123 yards on 21 carries.

Meanwhile, Coastal Carolina picked up a 35-28 victory over the Troy Trojans last Thursday. Coastal Carolina’s QB Grayson McCall did his thing and passed for two TDs and 294 yards on 26 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 59 yards. McCall’s 71-yard touchdown toss to RB Braydon Bennett in the second quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the night.

Georgia Southern is the clear underdog, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that determines this one. They have failed bettors playing the spread in their past two games, so buyers beware.

Georgia Southern is now 2-6 while the Chanticleers sit at 7-1. A couple defensive stats to keep an eye on: The Eagles are stumbling into the contest with the 249th most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 23 on the season. Coastal Carolina has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 201st worst in the nation in rushing touchdowns allowed, with 11 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.

The Chanticleers are a big 19.5-point favorite against the Eagles, according to the latest college football odds.
