The Southern Miss Golden Eagles play host to the UTSA Roadrunners when they meet Saturday in week 12 college football action from Roberts Stadium.
UTSA comes into this one at 5-4 so far. The Roadrunners are 2-1 over their last three games, with a loss to Florida Atlantic sandwiched between wins over LA Tech and UTEP. As for Southern Miss, they’re 2-6 this year. The Eagles are 1-3 in their last four games and coming off a loss to Western Kentucky last weekend. UTSA has some nice wins under their belt this season, but also a few tough, head-scratching losses. The Roadrunners had a pretty ugly 24-3 loss to Florida Atlantic on Halloween that dropped them to 1-4 in a five-game span, but did have a nice outing versus UTEP last weekend in a 52-21 victory.

In the win over the Miners, UTSA quarterback Frank Harris logged 312 yards with three touchdowns, and Zakhari Franklin led the receivers on six catches for 118 yards and a score. Brenden Brady had 26 carries for 124 yards to lead the UTSA rush in that one.
Over on the Southern Miss side, they’ve been all over the place in 2020, mostly on the downside. There have been blowout losses like 66-24 to Tulane, close losses like 31-30 to Louisiana Tech, and frustrating losses like 10-7 to Western Kentucky this past Saturday.
In the loss to the Hilltoppers, Southern Miss quarterback Trey Lowe posted 67 yards on 6-of-14 passing, and Kevin Perkins led the rush on 71 yards and a TD on six carries. Antoine Robinson had two catches for 25 yards to lead the receivers.
The Roadrunners are 4-0 ATS in their last four games on turf and 7-1 ATS in their last eight in November. UTSA is 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven conference games.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 2-6 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win and 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games. Southern Miss is 1-6 ATS in their last seven after a loss and 0-6 ATS in their last six home games.
PICK: I’m going UTSA. For the most part, the Roadrunners have been competitive, and haven’t been getting blown off the field by comparable teams this year. The 52 points against UTEP are an encouraging sign, and I don’t think Southern Miss has the gas to keep up if UTSA gets going. This is a good opportunity for the Roadrunners to stretch things out on the scoreboard and post an impressive cover.
