The Houston Baptist Huskies have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. They are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at 7 p.m. ET Sept. 26 at Joe Aillet Stadium. The Huskies are the clear underdogs, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that determines this one.
Houston Baptist was hampered by 110 penalty yards against the Texas Tech Red Raiders two weeks ago. It was close but no cigar for Houston Baptist as they fell 35-33 to Texas Tech. QB Bailey Zappe put forth a good effort for the losing side as he passed for four TDs and 567 yards on 49 attempts. Zappe’s 75-yard touchdown toss to WR Josh Sterns in the fourth quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the night.
Speaking of close games: Louisiana Tech had to kick off their season on the road last week, but they showed no ill effects. It was a tight contest that could have gone either way, but Louisiana Tech made off with a 31-30 victory over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. QB Luke Anthony and WR Griffin Hebert were among the main playmakers for the Bulldogs as the former passed for three TDs and 149 yards on 21 attempts and the latter snatched two receiving TDs. Louisiana Tech’s win came on a four-yard TD pass from Anthony to Hebert with only 0:14 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Louisiana Tech’s win lifted them to 1-0 while Houston Baptist’s defeat dropped them down to 0-2. We’ll see if Louisiana Tech can repeat their recent success or if Houston Baptist bounces back and reverse their fortune.
