Wednesday night college football begins this week. Included on this week’s slate is a Wednesday night game between Louisiana-Lafayette (2-3, 0-2 Sun Belt) and Marshall (3-2, 0-1 Sun Belt). Both of these teams are looking for their first conference win of the year. The Ragin’ Cajun have had a pair of close losses in conference play, coming up just short against Louisiana-Monroe 21-17 and South Alabama 20-17 last week. Marshall was out of conference last week, beating Gardner-Webb 28-7. Prior to that, the Herd lost to Troy 16-7 in their conference opener. This will be an important game for both programs.

Marshall and Louisiana have been two of the better defensive teams in the Sun Belt this year. The Herd rank second in the conference allowing 16.2 points per game, while the Ragin’ Cajuns rank fifth allowing 20.4 points per game.
These two teams met for the first time ever last year in the New Orleans Bowl when Marshall was still a member of C-USA. Louisiana, then ranked 23rd in the country, scored 20 points in the fourth quarter in a 36-21 comeback win.
