NC State takes on East Carolina in its first game of the year, a season with a lot of expectations for the program out of North Carolina. The Wolfpack come into the 2022 season ranked No. 13 in the preseason AP Poll and with big expectations. The Wolfpack return 10 starters on defense as well as quarterback Devin Leary, who threw for 3,433 yards and 35 touchdowns last year. It is a stacked team that is trying to prove they can compete in the ACC this season. The Pirates, though, are looking to pull off the huge upset and get a big opening game win against the favored Wolfpack.

The Wolfpack also had a very good year in 2021, going 9-3 and just missing out on playing in the ACC championship game. It lost two conference games by a combined four points to finish one game behind Wake Forest in the ACC Atlantic division.
