Last season, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons both finished with top-four records in the NBA. With that in mind, they had completely different offseason strategies and the trajectory of these two teams changed at the start of this season. Detroit took a big step forward, picking two of the best rookies in the draft in Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren. From there, the Pistons added veteran talent such as Bojan Bogdanovic, Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks via trade. On the other hand, Oklahoma City could again be among the worst teams in the NBA this season. The Thunder chose not to do much in free agency or the trade market, which refers to top players, but he drafted No. 2 Chet Holmgren overall, but he suffered a foot injury and will miss the season.

The Thunder are having a packed offseason, hitting six games in training camp. They have won three of the four competitions so far, but two of those have been against non-NBA teams.
Detroit opted for an easier four-game preseason schedule, but has lost both contests up to that point. Regardless, they’re a better team than the Thunder, especially with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander likely out with a knee injury.
After the end of this game, both teams have only one duel left until the start of the regular season next week. Every minute on the pitch is valuable as these teams come together and prepare for the start of the season.
